Casey Mize NAILED IT.

The Auburn pitcher may be on his way to inclusion with Bo Jackson and Frank Thomas and Charles Barkley as one of the greatest athletes in Auburn history.

The junior is considered by pro scouts as the best amateur pitcher in the country. That’s why he’s being projected as the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming draft. But first, he has an outstanding college career to complete.

Mize pitched another gem in beating Vanderbilt 4-1 Friday to run his record to 9-2 and lower his ERA to 2.25. He struck out 15, which is the most in any SEC game in five years.

For the second time this season, he is the reigning national pitcher of the week.

He now has 119 strikeouts for the season against only 7 walks. That’s a 17-to-1 ratio that is almost unheard of at any level of baseball, especially for a starter.

How well he does down the stretch will determine if Mize was simply very good on his way to being a high-paid pro or if he becomes truly an Auburn sports legend.
