BREAKING: South Alabama to reschedule Nov. 19 game

south-game-movedMOBILE, AL (WNSP) — South Alabama will not be playing LSU, but it will have a game Nov. 19.

The Oct. 8 game between the Tigers and the Florida Gators was rescheduled due to the effects of Hurricane Matthew, which hit land the day before. According to a press release from South Alabama Athletics, LSU “exercised its option to cancel the football game” and will be paying a $1.5 million fee.

“All tickets purchased through the South Alabama Athletic Ticket Office will be reimbursed,” the press release said. “Details will be released in the near future with information on the refund process.”

Jaguar Director of Athletics Joel Erdmann said the team’s focus is on the game at Arkansas State this weekend.

“Obviously we are extremely disappointed to not have the opportunity to play in Baton Rouge on Nov. 19,”  Erdmann said.  “This disappointment runs throughout our program, including our student-athletes, coaches, the University of South Alabama and all Jaguar fans.  We realize this is a very complicated and unique situation.  The University of South Alabama — with the assistance of the Sun Belt Conference — did everything reasonable within our power to make the game a reality, including offering to move our Homecoming game to a later date.

This Saturday, the Jags will travel to Jonesboro to take on the Red Wolves. Kickoff will be at 6 p.m., and the game will be broadcast on ESPN3. Florida hosts Missouri at 3 p.m. on SEC Network, and LSU hosts Southern Miss at 6:30 p.m. on the same channel.
