Being compared to McClain not a compliment for Foster

As a linebacker it’s a good thing to be compared to Rolando McClain. Big, fast, smart, relentless, dependable.
But these days, when people say Reuben Foster could be the next Rolando McClain, they don’t mean any of those positive things.

They mean that Foster might be about to follow in the footsteps of another Alabama great linebacker who couldn’t excel on the field because he couldn’t control himself off it.
Foster was arrested last month in Tuscaloosa and charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana. If he had been doing the same thing back at his new home with the San Francisco 49ers, that wouldn’t even have been a crime. Still, you have to know the laws where you are and obey them.

But then came news over the weekend that Foster had been arrested and charged with domestic violence after an altercation with his longtime girlfriend. After searching the home, police also charged Foster with possession of an assault rifle.
I don’t know all the detail of any of these charges and Foster deserves his day in court. But there is a pattern forming for Foster that, if it doesn’t change, is going to make Foster a cautionary tale like McClain.

Before it’s too late, Reuben Foster needs to Tighten Up.
