OK, we weren’t expecting any sort of impartiality. The NFL has made these players wealthy, not crazy. How ludicrous would it be for them to pick against their alma maters going into this mega SEC game–a game that weighs heavily in the national championship race. Top-ranked LSU and No. 2 Alabama get it on in Tuscaloosa on Saturday and just for fun, we asked some of their most celebrated alums to weigh in on the projected outcome.
Saints S Roman Harper
Alabama wins because:
“Because we’re a better team, and it’s in Tuscaloosa. We’re bigger. LSU’s defense is very athletic, though, I gotta give ‘em that, especially in the back seven. I really like the way they play. They’re ball-hawky. Just from what I’ve seen, those guys can play some ball back there. I like the way Alabama plays up front. I think we’re only giving up 30, 40, 50 yards a game rushing. So I don’t anticipate these guys being able to line up and knock us off the ball like they’ve done other teams. And you take that away from LSU and what do they have? …
“And we’ll try to make them beat us with their arms and not their legs. I think we’ve got a great chance. I’ve scouted. I like the way our offense matches up. I think AJ McCarron will have some success if he does a great job of managing this game. I think they’ll try and put eight and nine people in the box against Trent Richardson and Eddie Lacy and I think AJ better take advantage of that. He’s a cool guy, a calm guy and nothing seems to rattle him. He doesn’t let things get too big or too small. He just seems to always have it under control.”
Who or what will be X-factor?
“I think special teams and turnovers, because I think both offenses and defenses will probably even each other out. I think we’ve got a better returner. I think our kickers are good, too.”
Why will Alabama win the national championship?
“It just reminds me a lot of ’09 when we did the whole thing. We’re not sneaking up on teams, but we’re really dominating teams, winning the games we need to. We’re playing great defense, we’re playing a really complementary game offensively. We’re not turning the ball over. They look extremely talented. Just in college football, they’re probably the best team, the most talented. LSU looks great but I think we’ve got the home-field advantage.”
Texans LB DeMeco Ryans
