AUBURN — Vigor High School’s Darius Philon committed to play football at Auburn on Monday, and his high school coach Kerry Stevenson said the defensive lineman’s style of play should look familiar to fans in Jordan-Hare Stadium.

Stevenson said Philon resembles Sen’Derrick Marks, another Vigor defensive lineman who played for Auburn.

“Except, right now, he’s definitely stronger than Sen’Derrick was at this point, and he’s probably a little more explosive off the ball, too,” Stevenson said.

Marks went on to become an NFL second-round pick. Philon still has his senior high school season to go. But the 6-foot-2, 260-pounder from Prichard is coming off a good junior year when he had 93 tackles, including nine sacks and 20 tackles for a loss. He also had offers from Kentucky, Mississippi State, Texas Tech and Southern Miss, among others.

Philon missed Auburn’s Big Cat Weekend last week because of a previously scheduled trip with his uncle to Texas, but that didn’t stop him from becoming the Tigers’ seventh commitment for the 2012 signing class. It came after a whirlwind courtship.

Stevenson said Auburn didn’t really focus on Philon until Vigor’s spring game two weeks ago.

“It happened fast,” Stevenson said. “They saw Darius and liked him

Auburn picked up its third commitment in the last four days on Tuesday when four-star receiver Ricardo Louis from Miami said he’d be part of the 2012 signing class.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Louis was one of the recruits who was in Auburn last Saturday for the school’s Big Cat recruiting weekend. Reporting Louis’ commitment first were AuburnUndercover.com and Inside the Auburn Tigers and AuburnSports.com. Go there for the first wave of quotes on the eighth player to commit to the Tigers.

Louis also had offers from Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Clemson, Miami and South Carolina, among others, according to Rivals.

He’s the quarterback at Miami Beach High, but colleges have recruited him as a receiver. He’s listed as a four-star receiver by Rivals, Scout and 247 Sports. He accounted for approximately 1,000 yards of offense last year.

Auburn also received a commitment Monday from defensive lineman Darius Philon from Vigor High in Prichard. Offensive lineman Shane Callahan committed to Auburn during Big Cat Weekend on Saturday.

Auburn’s other commitments are cornerback Joshua Holsey, athlete Darrion Hutcherson, quarterback Zeke Pike, linebacker Cassanova McKinzy and offensive lineman Michael Flint.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A day after coach Jim Tressel’s forced resignation for lying about Ohio State players receiving improper benefits, the focus has shifted to the investigation of star quarterback Terrelle Pryor and his succession of used cars.

The salesman who put Pryor behind the wheel of several expensive vehicles said in a sworn affidavit released by Ohio State on Tuesday that he didn’t offer any special deals to Buckeyes.

Jim Tressel’s resignation could be a seminal moment. If there’s ever been a time to take a serious look at all the well-meaning but traditionally ignored proposals for reform, now might be it, Tim Keown writes. Commentary “The deals that I did for Ohio State student-athletes were no different than any of the other 10,000-plus deals that I’ve done for all my other customers,” Aaron Kniffin said in the s
