5 Local teams make HS football power poll

alpower25-9-12MOBILE, AL (WNSP) — AL.com released its updated Power 25 high school football rankings today, and five local teams made the list.

McGill-Toolen stayed on top yet again after beating Murphy 43-0 last Friday. The Yellow Jackets travel to Foley this week to take on the Lions, who come off a 30-7 win against Alma Bryant.

After beating Saraland at home 42-6, Blount jumped to No. 5. The Leopards will play at undefeated B.C. Rain on Friday.

No other local teams were ranked as high. Hoover jumped No. 3 Hewitt-Trussville to take No. 2 after beating No. 8 Spain Park 26-8.

Opelika and Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa each jumped three spots to Nos. 4 and 6, respectively, and Gardendale moved up a spot after beating Carver-Birmingham 55-18. Lee-Montgomery and Central-Phenix City rounded out the top ten.

No. 12 Spanish Fort dropped two spots, even though the Toros beat Robertsdale 43-0. This week they host Baldwin County, who lost to Blount 41-10 last week.

After beating Baker 41-21, Davidson leaped from No. 23 to No. 14, the highest jump of any team. St. Paul’s fell two spots, landing right behind Davidson at No. 15, despite beating Williamson 32-6.

The Warriors travel to 3-1 Theodore on Friday, and the Saints will take the four-hour drive to play at Dothan.
