MOBILE, AL – With a 15-under finish, Patrick Reed took home the green jacket at the 2018 Masters, and Susan Blackledge made the right pick in WNSP’s own 2018 Masters Matchup contest.

On Wednesday at Fairways Indoor Golf, a pool of 66 entrants chose the golfer they believed would win the Masters.

The contestant who selected the winner received a prize valued at more than $1400. A golfer could only be selected once, and contestants’ names were drawn in random order to pick golfers.

With the 24th pick of the contest, Susan Blackledge chose Patrick Reed, which gives her four rounds of golf at Steelwood Country Club, Timber Creek Golf and the Grand Hotel by Marriott, as well as a $200 gift certificate to Tavern on the Hill.

Reed had a projected 50/1 chance of winning the event, but despite this, he became the first winner from the U.S. since 2015.

Reed held off competitors Rickie Fowler, who was just one stroke behind, and Jordan Spieth, who shot 8-under-par in the final round. One of the favorites to win the Masters, Rory McIlroy, tied for fifth place after finishing 9-under overall.

The 2018 Masters is Patrick Reed’s first major championship on the PGA Tour. His most recent notable win before Sunday was at The Barclays in 2016.
